Indicator Acid Base pH Level Indicators for Urine, Saliva You can test for important pH health factors in the range of pH 5.5-8.0, especially urine and saliva. This acid and base indicator paper can be used to test acidity and alkalinity with a precision of 0.5 pH units. The pH of urine especially can vary greatly, so do not base any conclusions on just a few tests.
Test yourself at least ten times, if not more, at different times of the day such as first thing in the morning, 2 hours after meals, etc. If you get an average that is very low (~5.5) or very high (~8.0), consult your physician. Saliva will typically measure around pH 6.3-6.7 but can be greatly affected by what you've eaten (i.e. food stuck between your teeth). For best accuracy, brush and floss after eating and then measure at least an hour later. These high contrast test strips come ~50/pack and are easy to use and read. Note: The number of strips per pack or vial is approximate.
Note: If you are mainly interested in food, be sure to visit the U.S. government FDA site for the pH of many different foods. http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~comm/lacf-phs.html
